Oscar “La Migraña” Duarte vs. Kenneth “Bossman” Sims Jr. Set for August 2 Super Lightweight War

On Saturday, August 2, two of the super lightweight division’s most dangerous contenders will finally settle unfinished business. Mexico’s Oscar “La Migraña” Duarte and Chicago’s own Kenneth “Bossman” Sims Jr. are set to collide in a 12-round main event live on DAZN from the Credit Union 1 Arena.

Presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Cancun Boxing, this long-awaited clash also marks Golden Boy’s return to Chicago after more than a decade, promising a high-stakes, high-drama night in the Windy City.

💥 Duarte: Pressure Cooker Ready to Explode

Hailing from Parral, Chihuahua, Oscar Duarte (29-2-1, 23 KOs) is one of boxing’s most relentless pressure fighters. He’s fresh off a knockout win over Miguel Madueño—his third statement victory in a row.

“We’re going all out,” said Duarte. “This is the kind of fight that brings me one step closer to a world title.”

Duarte turned heads with a gritty effort against Ryan Garcia in 2023 and bounced back strong, stopping former world champion Jo Jo Diaz and outpointing Batyr Akhmedov in Riyadh. Trained by Robert Garcia, Duarte’s all-action style, durability, and fight-night fire have made him must-watch TV.

🧠 Sims Jr.: The Slick Assassin Comes Home

Chicago native Kenneth Sims Jr. (22-2-1, 8 KOs) isn’t intimidated. He’s a tactician who’s already upset big names—and he’s ready for another.

“This fight is long overdue,” said Sims. “It’s a dream to headline in my hometown, and I plan to deliver the performance of my life.”

A former Team USA standout, Sims Jr. has worked his way up the hard way. He burst into the spotlight with a 2021 upset win over Elvis Rodriguez, and hasn’t looked back since. Now ranked in the top five by the WBA and IBF, he sees Duarte as the final hurdle before a world title shot.

⚔️ The Fight That Almost Was… And Now Is

Originally booked for November 2024 in Riyadh, this matchup was postponed after Sims suffered a knee injury. Since then, the tension has only grown—with both fighters taking shots online and in the media.

“There is nowhere to run and hide,” said Oscar De La Hoya. “With all the animosity between the two, I can assure that fireworks will explode in this summer firecracker!”

Fans can expect a true style clash: Duarte’s nonstop pressure vs. Sims Jr.’s slick counters. Two men ranked in the top five. No titles on the line—just pride, rankings, and a shot at world championship glory.
